It is time to make the final stretch to the Spanish coast. Or more precisely the Basque coast. Unfortunately the forecast anticipated a heavy Atlantic swell in the next two days, so we made an extra stop over in Port Médoc, a nice small village and marina in the top of the famous wine area.
On Wednesday the waves and swell lowered to 1-1.5 m, so perfect for an overnight trip. We hoisted our favourite sail, a Code 0. Which has the flexibility to use up and downwind whilst easy to handle with a furler. Perfect for the night.
The narrow entry at Pasaia, a small fishermen town east of San Sebastián, with an entrance hardly visible between the steep and rocky mountains made the arrival in Spain very special.
Quickly we dived into the Basque culture with the Pintxos and Txakoli wine.
